Rothko

Content warning: suicidal themes

i.

The pills were swallowed

The wrist was cut

The deep red puddle was drawn in blood

6ft by 8ft

Just like his paintings

Just like the portals he'd sought to explore

ii.

Epic

Restless heart

Colour clenched

In desperate expression

iii.

In the silence of the canvas

A mysterious music

Dripping in black oil

Smiling through tears

iiii.

You no longer knew why you'd came

Egg-shelled spectator

18 inches from swimming within it

With your eyes, which sought to seize the face

To sense fully the sacred terror

The first ecstasy the body never forgets

iv.

A soul on fire

A narrow band of darkening sky

When the music's over, turn off the lights.

Mark Rothko No. 16
